From parties by the beach and under motorways to industrial raves inside former power plants and salt mines, fans of all shades of techno music are in for a treat this summer as many of the biggest DJs in the scene head to electronic music festivals in various cities all across the UK and Europe.

Whether you're heading to DGTL Amsterdam's NDSM takeover this easter weekend, or to the glorious Junction 2 at London's Boston Manor Park later in the summer, Balaton Sound or Stone Techno Festival in Germany, there's plenty to get stuck into this festival season.

As you scroll, through our round-up of some of Europe's best techno festivals this year, you might spot some house music, along with other electronic genres.

March 29 – 31, NDSM, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Any techno fan worth their salt knows that Easter weekend and DGTL are synonymous - the destination in the Netherlands for a sweaty, thumping long weekend.

A mainstay on Amsterdam's techno scene and without a doubt one of the city's best techno festivals, get there by taking the ferry across to Amsterdam's beloved NDSM Docklands, where you'll find a three-day lineup of revered icons and must-see up-and-comers.

Of course, the programme is a broad-reaching as it is fiery, studded with international talent. Techno lineup highlights include a b2b from Âme & Dixon, Mees Salomé's first ever live show, LSDXOXO serving up his first Boiler Room set in five years, Freddy K, ARTBAT, KOBOSIL, and, of course, hard techno bright star Ki/Ki.

Also catch a taste of the inevitably eclectic from Bonobo, Patrick Mason, Fjaak, DJ Koze, Sofia Kourtesis, Avalon Emerson, Sofia Kourtesis and so, so many more.

Heads up: DGTL also takes sustainability seriously (in 2022 it became the world's first circular dance festival!), along with inclusivity and creating a safer space - in other words, well worth your time if these things are also a priority for you as a techno fan.

Noisily Festival 

6 - 9 July, Stanford Hall, Leicestershire, Lutterworth, United Kingdom Rooted in underground electronic music, woodland festival Noisily is, organisers promise, “a proper f*cking party”. With an ethos of ‘Dance. Create. Learn. Connect.’, there’ll certainly be no trouble doing the first thanks to the stellar line-up of DJ talent booked across the weekend, which features Joris Voorn, Oliver Koletzki and Petar Dundov. 

AWAKENINGS | SUMMER FESTIVAL 2023

7 - 9 July, Hilvarenbeek, Netherlands As the largest techno festival in the Netherlands, this three-day marathon in the woods is suitably stacked with sceneleaders.

Returning to Hilvarenbeek for the second year in its new home, there will be nine stages and, for those whose mantra is ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead’, the chance to keep going at the festival’s night village.

The entire programme is top-tier, but highlights - if we had to pick them - include Alan Fitzpatrick, Amelie Lens, Ben Klock, Dax J, DVS1, Ellen Allien and Nina Kraviz. 

Stone Techno Festival 2024

 8 - 9 July, Zeche Zollverein, Essen, German As far as raving locations go, Europe’s biggest coal mine complex is up there with the coolest and most unique.

Taking place at UNESCO World Heritage site Zollverein in Essen, dance music fans from all over the world will fill the intimate floors during a weekend of heavy-hitting techno delivered by heroes like SPFDJ, Adriana Lopez, D.Dan, Blawan, DVS1, DJ Nobu, Dr. Rubinstein, Ben Sims, Dax J and Oscar Mulero.

Junction 2

21 - 22 July, Boston Manor Park, London

London's Junction 2 is also a mainstay on the techno fan's festival circuit thanks to its inimitable home under the M1. 2023's festival was a massive success following a few years' hiatus, returning with incredible new stages including the Quad, Grid and TicketSwap's very own Blackout stage.

The 2024 edition kicks off with a day packed with melodic house and techno, featuring stunners like ARTBAT, CamelPhat, and Paul Kalkbrenner. Day two takes a dive into deeper techno territory with legends such as Adam Beyer b2b Amelie Lens, Jeff Mills, and Richie Hawtin. The final day mixes it up with a range of electronic flavors, headlined by The Blessed Madonna, Honey Dijon, and The Martinez Brothers.

Dekmantel Ten - Dekmantel Festival 2024

2 - 6 August, Amsterdamse Bos & Aan Het IJ, Amsterdam, Netherlands 

With Dekmantel being one of the most respected festivals in Europe, chances are that your favourite DJ's favourite DJ will be heading to Amsterdam to play there come August.

Taking place in Amsterdamse Bos - a huge outdoor park three times the size of Central Park in New York - the festival action is spread across six stages. Helena Hauff, Hunee & Orpheu The Wizard, Jeff Mills and Eris Drew are just four must-sees from the 2024 programme.

Loveland Festival 2024 

August 10 – 11, Sloterpark, Amsterdam, Netherlands

Stunning lakeside views and banging techno – what more could you want?

To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Loveland festival's return to Amsterdam's Sloterpark will host interactive entertainment and welcome more than 70 of the best underground DJs, including Honey Dijon, Maceo Plex and Anfisa Letyago, Stephan Bodzin (Live) and Eric Prydz.

XRDS Festival 2024

August 17 – 18, Parc des Étangs / Vijverpark, Brussels, Belgium 

Held in the outskirts of Brussels beneath the notorious bridges and motorways of Anderlecht, XRDS' two-day programme features both young talents and established artists, local and international DJs – Bjarki, RØDHÅD, Gigi FM, Floorplan and Objekt were all on the line-up in 2023, so keep your eyes peeled for 2024 announcements... 

Nibirii Festival

Aug 23 – 25, Dürener Badesee, Düren, Germany German festival Nibirii - which is spread across four forest and lakeside stages - hosts its enormous techno line-up under one roof.

Catch Oguz, Paula Temple, KOBOSIL, I Hate Models, DJ Rush and Kalte Liebe (live), plus many more soon to be announced, on this dedicated stage.

And, if you like to take your techno with a side-serving of little drum and bass or goa / psy-trance, Nibirii's got you covered there too.

Dekmantel Selectors

August 22 – 26, Tisno Garden, Tisno, Croatia  Returning to Tisno in Croatia for Dekmantel Selectors’ seventh edition at The Garden Resort, seasoned and upcoming DJs - including Antal, Bored Lored,  Call Super & Shanti Celeste, Mama Snake & Spekki Webu, and Or:la - will deliver the cutting-edge soundtrack to five days of partying on the Adriatic Coast.

Rotterdam Rave Festival 

2 September, Rotterdam Ahoy, Rotterdam, Netherlands The iconic Rotterdam Rave's 2024 return will feature sets from 999999999, known for their high-energy live sets, and Cynthia Spiering, who brings her unique hard groove style.

Other notable acts include Alignment, DYEN, and Felicie, each bringing their distinct sound to the event. The festival will also see special shows from I Hate Models and the engaging live performance of Ketting. With a blend of established names and exciting emerging talents, the festival is poised to deliver an unforgettable techno experience​

Balaton Sound 2024 

July 3 – 7, Zamárdi, Hungary

‘Beach. Sun. Sets' – that's the triple-threat appeal of Heineken Balaton Sound, Europe's largest and most-colourful open-air electronic beach festival. Located near the popular holiday destination Siófok and set on the blissful sunny shore of Lake Balaton in Hungary.

The 2023 edition featured the legendary Carl Cox, Brazilian powerhouse ANNA, Kyiv DJ duo Artbat, Agents Of Time, Anfisa Letyago, Charlotte de Witte, Dubfire, Joseph Capriati and Pan-Pot, stepping up to the decks across four days and nights, along with a live show fro Gioli & Assia. Sets from Paul Kalkbrenner and Nico Moreno have already been announced for the 2024 edition, and we're stoked to see the next drop of techno legends.

WiSH Outdoor 2024

5-7 July, 2024, Festivalterrein De AA, Beek En Donk, Netherlands

A three-day outdoor electronic festival with “outstanding production values”, plenty of options for camping and partying all night, step into the world of WiSH Outdoor. The 2023 festival boasted more than 200 performers and 10 stages including one dedicated to techno, hosting sets from DIØN, Ketting and more.
